REACH

FOUNDATION 2015

This project was to design the Reach Foundation's corporate headquaters and training facility within the 1958 modernist icon Orica House on Nicholson Street, East Melbourne.

The concept "Laneways in the Sky" is a meld of both Melbourne's inner city laneways and the youth based culture of the organisation. As Reach is a youth organisation the spaces, both workplace and public, are a designed to be democratic, with all users having equal access to daylight, views and public areas. The laneways link the spaces, linking the unusual interplay of compact and generious space.

The brutal material pallate gives the spaces a temporary and almost unfinished feel. Graffiti acts as a tool to give spaces colour, texture and gravitas, this is intended to change over time, which both allows street artists and the organisation to change, grow and progress.
